Gong Show
After a long steep climb on a trail through talus, often losing the way (it probably took less than half an hour) we arrive at Gong Show.
From here we head out right, which for a while is easy on sandy trail, then over rocks and talus, a shelf, some class 3 moves. Then the trail disappears amidst the sage-brush on a steep sandy slope that threatens to have us slide down. There are no more footprints. One by one, we give up. I'm last to call it quits, because it's my lead climb I want to do. But we're wearing ourselves out off trail, off route, and getting into treacherous terrain. -F.
This terrain gave me a very bad feeling. I was relieved that Bill and Frank didn't continue much beyond where I had stopped. --S.
