Rest Day: Horseshoe Slabs Recon
3 km and 50 m elevation gain.
The storm was due in the early afternoon, so we had some time for light activity before transitioning to the rest day. We did the short hike to Horseshoe Slabs to prepare for a climbing day that I hoped would furnish my first trad lead, another 5.6 named Rodeo Rider. We didn't bring harnesses or climbing gear, but equipment for building anchors. We'd never been up on the shelf, and didn't know what bolts were available. We only knew that many people anchor to the trees - dead and dying trees. -F.
