Western Wheelers 2014 Sequoia Century
The 2014 Sequoia Century covered 185 km (113 miles) and 3000 m (10,000 ft) of elevation gain. I covered the course in 8 hours of moving time, but spent an additional 3 1/2 hours stopping at each rest stop, and that adds up. By the time I got back to the start/finish zone at Foothill College, I'd just missed the closing deadline, and there was nothing more to be seen of the communal dinner and festivities that were to await the riders. Nonetheless, I ate plenty of dinner at home, after feasting all day on the many treats offered at the rest stops, and infused with Gatorade and the odd Powerbar as well.
In these videos I intended to musically capture the feel and mood, sometimes cum grano salis, of each segment.
The somewhat longer Part 1 encompasses the start, the climb over the hill and descent to the coast, and up the coast to about San Gregorio, while Part 2 finishes the ride up the coast to Half Moon Bay, over the hill and back to Foothill.
While Part 1 was easier to make, with fresh legs, so to speak, and is the more exciting part, Part 2 is a bit more giddy, but that too reflects the nature of the ride.
