Pā'ia Beach

That first beach day in Pā'ia was pretty incredible. The tide line went up almost the entire steep beach, and we were mostly on the flatter grass above, warning people who spread their towels in the sand below. The next big wave would come soon. Swimming? Not really. You could wade out to your knees and get walloped and swept away by the next wave that crashed over your head, and get deposited on dry land, or sucked out seaward until the next wave carried you back to shore. But that's not swimming. It was just tremendous fun to get roughed up by the sea like that. -F.
