Mammoth Trip, 2026

September 15

Mammoth Crest

On our final day the Dome Fire broke out in Yosemite, the only fire that coincided with us this year, but it interfered with us not at all.

The adage is: when you stop moving is when you die. Don't stop moving! It's like a hike, one foot in front of the other and again! Do not go gentle! Stay strong, stay forceful. That is to defy aging and consequently Death.

Do not go gentle into that long night: rage, rage against the dying of the light!1

And it has worked so far, but conversely, as I move less, I die faster. So as I decide to forego Mammoth and all that it entails, it is also a commitment to suicide in stages. -F.
